On January 25, 2023, His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Porfirije visited the Church of St. Sava in New York and, during the visit, was informed and given an update with the work on the restoration of the church, which was badly damaged by fire on Easter 2016.
His Holiness the Patriarch was accompanied by His Grace Bishop Mitrophan of the Canadian Diocese, Protopresbyter-Stavrophor Velibor Dzomic and Protodeacon Dragan Radic.
In a conversation with Protopresbyter-Stavrophor Zivojin Jakovljevic, the dean of the cathedral, Veljko Dobrilović, the church board president, and Marko Jovanovic, a member of the church board, it was concluded that in the past six years, a significant part of the work has been done, but that there is still a lot of work that requires greater efficiency and engagement in the restoration of the Church of St. Sava.
