His Holiness Visited Holy Resurrection Cathedral and the St. Sava Academy in Chicago

His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Porfirije visited the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral and the Academy of Saint Sava in Chicago on February 3, 2023.

His Holiness the Patriarch, accompanied by Hi Grace Bishop  Mitrophan of Canada, Protopresbyter-Stavrophor Velibor Dzomic and Protodeacon Dragan Radic, was welcomed by His Grace Bishop Longin of New Gracanica-Midwestern America, the  clergy of the Cathedral and numerous parishioners.

The youngest members of the parish, dressed in Serbian folk costume, welcomed their Patriarch with bread and salt, according to the traditional custom. Afterward, the doxology service was served by the clergy and deacons of the Cathedral.

The Serbian Patriarch then visited the Academy of St. Sava, a parochial school where classes are taught according to a bilingual curriculum. On that occasion, students and teachers welcomed the Serbian Patriarch and expressed their gratitude for the archpastoral blessing. Wishing to show the Patriarch their acquired knowledge and skills, and especially their love for the Mother Church and the distant homeland, the students of the Academy of Saint Sava performed a rich cultural and artistic program, their joy at meeting their Patriarch was evident.

His Holiness the Patriarch thanked the hosts for the warm welcome and especially expressed his joy at the displayed knowledge and skills of the school's students, especially their knowledge of the Serbian language and culture.  Additionally, Patriarch Porfirije thanked Bishop Longin and the Chicago clergy for their effort and care for the flock entrusted to them.

His Holiness the Patriarch, together with his clerical entourage and joined by His Grace Bishop Nikodim of Dalmatia, left for  Schererville, Indiana where a fundraising event, a dinner will be held to benefit Krka Monastery, an ancient Serbian sanctuary in Dalmatia.
