Very Reverend Father Vojislav Dosenovich. So Help Me  God: A Personal Documentary. Vantage Press, New York, 1992, 390 pages.

A written record of the lives of Serbian Orthodox priests immigrating to America is very important. The priests coming to this country from the former Yugoslavia bring with them a history and experiences in a culture that is quite different.

The overwhelming majority of priests serving the Serbian Orthodox Church in the United States for more than the past century have come from Serbia and other parts of the former Yugoslavia.

The Serbian Orthodox Church on this continent has benefited immeasurably from the contributions of the priests who left the land of their birth and followed the commission of the Lord Jesus Christ to "Go therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things."(Mt.28:19-20)

Proto Stavrofor Vojislav Dosenovich is a Serbian Orthodox priest with a long and distinguished record of service who took time to write down in book form the account of his life.

The book, So Help Me God: A Personal Documentary, is a vivid description of Father Vojislav's life. The reader should be prepared to think about the impact of violence upon a family. The reader should be prepared to think about the hard decisions a family may have to make to honor the Holy Orthodox Faith. The reader should be prepared to think about the responsibility thrust upon a young Orthodox Christian man.

This is an account of experiencing the Cross of Christ and remaining true to Christ. It is an account of a priest of contemporary times capable of maintaining an internal peace under and after times of great duress.

Father Vojislav writes clearly about his family, about his homeland, about his beloved Serbian Orthodox Church. Though he speaks of decades ago, he speaks also about recent times.

The book is filled with lessons of history, with moments of drama, with much to think about in these days when war continues to be in the headlines.

Father Vojislav is a gifted writer. He has published other books including one on the Divine Liturgy and one on Spiritual Reminders.

Every person needs to learn how to respond to violence. Every person needs to learn how to respond in times of crisis. Ideally, all Christians respond in difficult circumstances in ways pleasing to Christ.

Proto Stavrofor Vojislav Dosenovich sets forth a written account of his own life as a Serbian Orthodox priest that reflects the peace of God that passes all understanding.(Phil.4:7). We can learn from what he has written.
