Кад је Јован погружавао Христа у воде реке Јордана, чуо се с небеса глас Бога Оца: "Ово је Син мој љубљени, који је по Мојој вољи". У Јордану је стајало друго Лице Свете Тројице, Син Божји, као Богочовек, а над Сином Божјим лебдео је Дух Свети у облику светлоснога голуба. То је било Богојављење. Ту се јавно открио Бог као Отац, Син и Дух Свети, као Света Тројица. Бог се јавио и васељену просветио. Богојављење се празнује 6. јануара по старом календару (19. јануара по новом). На тај дан освећује се вода која се носи кући и пије ради здравља и просвећења душе и тела. Та богојављенска водица никада се не квари, јер у њој пребива сила Духа Светога.

When John immersed Christ in the waters of the Jordan, the voice of God the Father from heaven was heard: "This is my beloved Son, in Whom I am pleased". In the Jordan the second Person of the Holy Trinity stood, God the Son, as the God-man, and hovering above the Son of God was the Holy Spirit in the form of a light-bearing dove. This was the Theophany. Here God publicly revealed Himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, as the Holy Trinity. God appeared and enlightened the universe. Theophany is celebrated on January 19. On that day waters are blessed which the faithful take to their homes and take to drink unto the health and sanctification of souls and bodies. This Theophany holy water never spoils for in it abides the power of the Holy Spirit.
