Patriarch Irinej Arrived in Washington D.C.

His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej arrived in Washington D.C., the US capitol, on March 2, 2020.

His Holiness, accompanied by His Grace Bishop Jovan of Sumadija and Protodeacon Damjan Bozic, were welcomed at the airport by Fr. Vasilije Vranic and Milan Visnjic, church board president.

The St. Luke Serbian Orthodox Church is located on River Road, the main street in Potomac, a very elite area of Washington. The renovation of the church, the social center and surrounding property was completed in 2014. This Serbian Church is significant as it is the only one near the nation’s capital.

Washington is named after the first US President, George Washington. It houses the headquarters of the federal executive, legislative and judicial branches, most federal agencies, as well as many national and international institutions.

Serbian Patriarch Irinej will be in Washington until the evening of March 3, 2020 when he is planned to travel to New York.
