BLESSING THE CORNERSTONE -- A DAY TO REMEMBER!
Saratoga, CA - The Blessing of the Cornerstone on Sunday, September 26, 2010 was an affair to remember. It will go down in the history of St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church as a beautiful, religious and spiritually uplifting day. It brought memories of the founders of our Church and how proud they would be that we are carrying forward a legacy they started over 50 years ago.
The day began with a procession of priests led into the chapel by His Grace Metropolitan Nikitas of the Patriarch Athenagoras Orthodox Institute. Following the Divine Liturgy, the parishioners walked onto the slab of the new Church where a service to bless the cornerstone in the altar was performed. What a moving and unforgettable experience!
A cocktail reception was held on the patio where we were treated to homemade appetizers that would have made professional caterers envious. As always, our Kolo members rose to the occasion with the most delicious and beautifully presented appetizers.
Adding to the festive mood on the patio as well as in the hall during the banquet was background music by Vladimir Licina.
A delicious banquet prepared by Nenad Nikolic and his staff was served by members of the Mladost Dance Group and our Kolo members. Thanks to direction of Alicia Davidovich, the teenagers and Kolo members served the filled-to-capacity hall with speed and efficiency.
Entering the hall was like walking into a sparkling autumn day with the exciting color theme and beautiful decorations and floral arrangements. The decorating committee headed by Zora Kabic and Rada Molnar created a spectacular environment.
Opstina president Chris Milosovich welcomed the gathering, and Master of Ceremonies William Davidovich introduced the clergy and dignitaries and spoke of the many families, old and new, who have worked tirelessly to make this dream of building their house of worship a reality. Construction began on June 10, 2010 following many public hearings before the City of Saratoga who gave us unanimous and full approval to build. Of special interest is that the natural stone that will comprise the exterior will come from Montenegro.
The speaker of the day was His Grace Metropolitan Nikitas whose talk held us spellbound.
We wish to thank the Cornerstone project committee and all those whose time, talent and hard work created a successful and memorable day. Enjoy the pictures which follow.
