SERBIAN BAR ASSOCIATION CELEBRATES SAINT DAY AT CATHEDRAL
Chicago, IL - The Serbian Bar Association of America celebrated its patron saint, St. Joanikije the first Serbian Patriarch and Lawgiver, on Sunday, September 16th, 2012, at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago. The Slava bread and wheat were blessed by the Cathedral Dean, Fr. Darko Spasojevic, in the presence of the organization’s leadership, and a festive Slava luncheon followed.
“Our community is honored to host the Serbian Bar Association celebration of their patron, St. Joanikije the first Serbian Patriarch. It is always good to see a group of professionals, in this case lawyers and judges, practicing their faith and maintaining their customs and traditions together, just as they strive together to be their clients’ best advocates. TheSerbian Bar Association also gives significant scholarships to Serbian students studying law, thus supporting young and burgeoning legal scholars who are proud of their heritage, and we as a community should do more of such outreach in every field of study,” said Fr. Darko on this occasion.
