A CALL TO PRAYER AND FASTING FOR ALL SERBIAN ORTHODOX PEOPLE
FOR THE SALVATION OF OUR SUFFERING PEOPLE IN KOSOVO AND METOHIJA

We, your Patriarch with the Holy Synod of Bishops and members of the Committee for Kosovo and Metohija of the Holy Hierarchical Assembly, out of our deep concern for the threat of violence which endangers the people of Kosovo and Metohija, its freedom and holy sites, yet filled with faith and hope in our God and Savior, call upon our faithful Serbian people to prayer and a three day fast (until Sunday): that God forgive us our sins, that He bestow reason to the mighty and those who have the power not to partake in injustice, the trampling of the laws of God and man, as well as the basic human rights and freedoms, and the decisions of the United Nations (Resolution 1244) according to which Kosovo and Metohija has been and remains an integral part of Serbia.

At the same time we call upon all clergy, monastics and faithful that on September 15, 16 and 17, a Moleban for the suffering people of Kosovo and Metohija be served in their churches at 6pm.

With fatherly concern and love we especially address you, our spiritual children, in the suffering Kosovo and Metohija that you endure in bearing your cross, and faithfulness to your holy sites, cemeteries of your ancestors and your homes. What ever happens (we hope salvation from God and justice from man), we must firmly remain faithful to our historical commitment and the testament of Kosovo, in accordance with the eternal truth: “He who endures to the end will be saved.”

God's blessing to all of our Serbian Orthodox people and all people of goodwill, especially our brothers and sisters in Kosovo and Metohija.
