THE 2009-10 ACADEMIC YEAR BEGINS AT ST. SAVA ACADEMY IN CHICAGO

Chicago, IL - The first day of school for St. Sava Academy students was a very eventful one. The day began with students meeting their teachers in their respective classrooms. Afterward, the students, staff and parents walked over to the Cathedral for a special prayer and blessing to mark the start of the new school year. Special thanks to Fr. Darko Spasojevic, the Cathedral Dean, and Fr. Radovan Jakovljevic and Fr. Vasilije Vranic, parish priests, for serving this special prayer service.

Next, everyone congregated by the flag poles to recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States of America and sing the national anthem of Serbia. In concluding the morning events, the students returned to their classrooms where our Cathedral clergy blessed the classrooms with Holy Water. In addition to the various orientation activities planned by our teachers, the children were also visited throughout the day by Principal Marko Bojovic and our Cathedral clergy. St. Sava Academy is the Parochial School of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago. St. Sava Academy is a dual-language school and is recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education as a private school.

Currently, St. Sava Academy has 65 students. Each year the enrollment increases as more and more parents within the Chicagoland area realize the importance of a dual-language Serbian Orthodox Parochial School.
