News and Events - July 2012
Reno, NV - Saturday, July 7th was a blessed day for the St. John Mission in Reno, NV. The Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the chapel of St. Alexander of the Sleeping Ones by His Grace Bishop Maxim at the small but eager mission Parish in Reno. He was assisted by the Parish Priest, Fr. James Barfield, Presbyter Stephen Karcher (Greek parish in Reno), Presbyter Oleg (Russian parish in Reno), Protopresbyter William Weir (Fair Oaks, CA), and Hierodeacon Panteleimon. Vladika Maxim’s sermon was a reflection on the community of Saints and the particular place occupied in it by St John the Baptist.
Divine Liturgy is served at the chapel that is owned and maintained by the Buick family and given to the mission parish with no financial burden. Following the Divine Liturgy, cutting of the Kolach and blessing of the Zhito, everyone enjoyed the prepared meal (a seafood soup and a variety of side dishes).
