PROFESSOR DR. PREDRAG SAMARDZIC ORDAINED TO THE DIACONATE
Libertyville, IL - The Feast of the Ascension of our Lord was solemnly celebrated at St. Sava Monastery in Libertyville, Illinois. The Holy Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was served by His Eminence Metropolitan Christopher of Midwestern America and His Grace Bishop Maxim of Western America. The hierarchs were assisted by the clergy: V. Rev. Stavrophor Dennis Pavichevich, Hieromonk Seraphim (Milojkovich), Rev. Darko Spasojevic, Rev. Petar Sailovic, Deacon Pavle Starcevic and Deacon Damjan S. Bozic.
His Eminence Metropolitan Christopher ordained Predrag Samardzic, long time professor at the St. Sava School of Theology in Libertyville.
Professor Dr. Predrag Samardzic is one of the best known Biblical scholars in the Serbian Orthodox Church and has been teaching Old Testament, Greek and Hebrew languages at the St. Sava School of Theology since 1990. His wide range of knowledge of Holy Scripture and biblical languages he attained during his doctoral studies at the St. Sergius Orthodox Theological Institute in Paris and afterward during his work at source texts in the Biblical research center in "Ecole Biblique et Archeologique Francaise" in Jerusalem, Isreal as well as the University of Jerusalem. Recently, Professor Samardzic defended his doctoral thesis on the theme, "The Messianic and Soteriological Character of Christ's Baptism", at the Spiritual Academy of St. Vasilije of Ostrog in Srbinje, Republika Srpska. Professor Samardzic has authored many books and countless theological articles. Among his books are: "Jesus Christ in the Shadow of Historical Criticism" (Belgrade-Trebinje, 2004), "The Dignity of Women in Biblical Light" (Belgrade, 2007), and the translation of the "Psalter" from the Hebrew (Belgrade, 2003).
