CATHEDRAL CHURCH AND SERBIAN SCHOOLS GRADUATE 2010 CLASS

Chicago, IL - The students of the Church and Serbian School programs of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago, Illinois, were honored for their participation in the Cathedral's academic programs today, in a graduation ceremony marking the end of the 2009/2010 academic year under the organization of the Cathedral Education Board.

The celebration began with the Divine Liturgy, served by visiting priest Fr. Norman Kosanovich of St. Steven's Cathedral in Alhambra, California, with the concelebration of Cathedral Dean Fr. Darko Spasojevic, Very Reverend Fr. Dennis Pavichevich, Fr. Radovan Jakovljevic, Fr. Vasilije Vranic, and Fr. Deacon Damjan Bozic.

The Eucharistic celebration was attended by a great number of students and teachers of both Church and Serbian School programs with many approaching to commune of the Precious and Lifegiving Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, demonstrating that the fulfilment of the Cathedral's educational programs was in the formation and preparation of the young to actively participate in the rich sacramental life of the Holy Serbian Orthodox Church.

Following the divine services, during which Fr. Norman Kosanovich delivered a sermon in English on the day's Gospel reading and Fr. Vasilije Vranich gave a sermon in Serbian on the importance of education and community, Fr. Darko Spasojevic thanked the visiting priest from California, as well as the students, teachers, and parents of the Church and Serbian School programs for their participation.

"It is fitting that today's graduation ceremony coincides with today's Sunday when our church commemorates the Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council," Fr. Darko said, "because it is through our Cathedral's educational programs that we seek to pass on this true and living faith as professed by those holy fathers to the future generations and leaders of our community."

Fr. Darko then introduced Fr. Radovan Jakovljevic, Director of Christian Education, who led the handing out of Certificates to students and graduation ceremony and honored school superintedent Darlene Lada for her 30 years of service.

After the ceremony, the Cathedral community was invited to a luncheon prepared with love by the Kolo of Serbian Sisters, under the chairmanship of Zora Voynovich, and werr treated to a cultural program organized by the Serbian School students and their capable teachers.
