SERBIAN MINISTER OF RELIGION VISITS DIASPORA
January 24, 2011 - February 5, 2011


Alhambra, CA - The Western American Diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church in North and South America, has the honor to host Dr. Bogoljub Sijakovic, Minister of Religion in the Government of the Republic of Serbia during his visit to the United States . It is our wish and anticipation that the Honorable Minister during his visits to our Churches and meetings with our people in these areas will contribute to the unity among our people and to improvement of our education, since one of the priorities set by the Republic of Serbia is taking care for Serbs in Diaspora.

His visit to our dioceses (Eastern-American, Midwestern-American and Western-American), parishes, educational institutions (Theological Faculty in Libertyville , Illinois ) and to other places is a great opportunity for such a mission. Mr. Siakovic will visit Serbian centers with a start in Chicago , IL (Jan. 24-26), Theological Faculty Libertyville, Los Angeles , CA (Jan. 27-30), Phoenix , AZ (Jan. 30-31) San Francisco Bay Area (Feb. 1-3) and New York (Feb. 4-6).

The foundation of the Research-Missionary center for Serbian History, Culture and Theology in English (Serbica Americana) as well as promotion of cooperation in the field of education are some of the primary goals for this visit.

Prof. Bogoljub Sijakovic, University of Belgrade and University of Niksic , and Minister of Religion in the Government of the Republic of Serbia .

He was born on August 6 th 1955 in Niksic. He completed his studies in Philosophy both bachelor and masters degree at the University of Belgrade and successfully he defended his doctoral thesis in 1989 at the University of Sarajevo . He is a full-time professor of Philosophy at the Orthodox Theological Faculty, University of Belgrade .

He is founder of People's Party and Democratic Party.

He maintained good relationship with Metroplitan of Montenegro and Coastline and he is well-known in his defense of the canonical order of our Church.

In year 2000, Serbian People's Party appointed him as non-party person to be Federal Minister of Religion (F.R. Yugoslavia)

He is member of the Royal Council of the Crown-Prince Alexander Karadjordjevic.

In year 2006 he was a candidate for Serbian Academy of Science and Arts .

In year 2008 he became a Minister of Religion in the Government of Premier Mirko Cvetkovic who is also non-party person.

He is married and a father of two children.
