CHURCH SLAVA IN WINDSOR

Српски

Windsor, Ontario - On August 28,2015 Windsor’s beautiful Gracanica celebrated its church slava, Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos.

Slava festivities began with a solemn vigil served by Protosyncellus Vasilije from Milton with the attendance of His Grace Bishop Mitrophan of Eastern America, Protopresbyter-stavrophor Miroljub Todorovic, Protopresbyter Jovica Cetkovic and the host Protopresbyter Milan Jovanovic who all chanted at the cantor’s stand together with the church choir.

On the very day of the feast, on which all of the Church of Christ gives glory and praise to the Most Holy Mother of God, the Eucharistic assembly was headed by His Grace Bishop Mitrophan, along with a host of serving clergy from Canada and from neighbouring Detroit, America. The Eucharistic participants were: Protopresbyter-stavrofor Srboljub Jockovic from Detroit, Protopresbyter-stavrofor Zivan Urosev head of Ravanica Church, Detroit, Protopresbyter Dobrica Obradovic from London, Protopresbyter Rade Obsenica from Monroe, Protosindjel Vasilije Gavrilovic from Milton, Protopresbyter Jovica Cetkovic from Sv. Dimitrije Church, Windsor, and the host Protopresbyter Milan Jovanovic.

The Church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos was rather full of the faithful who came to pray to the Lord and to the Most Holy Mother of God even though it was Friday which is a working day in Canada. All those present could, after a procession three times around the church, participate in the prayerful intercessions to the Living God with which Bishop Mitrophan blessed the Slava offerings of kolach and wheat.

After the procession around the church and the offering of the kolach and wheat, Bishop Mitrophan delivered a sermon inspired by God the Father to the assembled believers first in the Serbian language and afterward in English.

Immediately after the Holy Liturgy the Church’s Circle of Serbian Sisters worthily prepared a feast of love where all the clergy enjoyed a Slava lunch. A rich Slava banquet was served at 6pm that evening in the very full Serbian Centre where His Grace Bishop Mitrophan blessed the food and drink.
