SUNDAY OF THE HOLY CROSS AT ST. ELIJAH CATHEDRAL IN MERRILVILLE

Српски

On Sunday, March 11, 2018 the clergy and faithful from the Chicago Deanery welcomed His Grace Bishop Longin of New Gracanica and Midwest America to St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Merrilville, Indiana. Very Rev. Stavrophor Nedeljko Lunich, Episcopal Deputy, prayerfully led the Vespers service with the concelebration of deanery clergy and deacons. The homilist during the Lenten Vespers was V. Rev. Stavrophor Milos Vesin, parish priest from the St. Archangel Michael Serbian Church in Lansing.

Fr. Milos' words during these days when we venerate the Holy Cross touched the souls of everyone present and made them seriously think of the significance of the Cross of Christ which we all bear in this world. Fr. Milos reminded everyone that our task in this life is to carry our cross, to witness with our faith the miracle that happens every day in our life.

Afterward His Grace Bishop Longin made a prostration in front of the Cross, followed by the clergy, deacons and faithful while the choir beautifully sang "Before Thy Cross, we bow down in worship, O Master, and Thy holy resurrection, we glorify!”

V. Rev. Dr. Aleksandar Novakovic, dean of the cathedral, thanked His Grace, the bishop, the clergy, and all the faithful people of God for their prayerful visitation and expressed his hope that we all continue our prayeful podvig and worthily welcome the great feast of all feast, the Resurreciton of Christ.

This prayerful gathering ended with an agape meal prepared by the hard working members of the Cathedral Serbian Kolo Sestara. This was truly a beautiful spiritual event at St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Merrillville, Indiana.
