MONASTERY SLAVA AT MILTON MONASTERY
The Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord was triumphantly celebrated at Milton Monastery. On the occasion of the Slava of the only Serbian monastery in Canada, a large number of faithful gathered at the Holy Hierarchical Divine Liturgy from many jurisdictions.
Archbishop Sotirios, Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Toronto and Metropolitan of Canada, officiated at the Divine Liturgy with the concelebration of Bishop Mitrophan of Canada and the Bishop Georgije, retired Bishop of Canada. Greek, Ukrainian, Georgian and Serbian clergy concelebrated and took part in this beautiful feast of the Milton monastery. During the liturgy His Grace Bishop Mitrophan ordained Aleksandar Mitrovic to the deaconate.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy Bishop Mitrophan addressed the faithful speaking of the meaning of this feast of the Transfiguration which enlightens us and makes us proclaimers of the Heavenly Kingdom.
After the dismissal a Litiya followed with the reading of the gospel in Serbian and English and the sprinkling of holy water.
Upon returning to the church Bishop Mitrophan blessed the grapes and the Slava kolach. Kumovi this year were the Grujicic family from Kitchener, represented by Stefan Grujicic. Dr. Dragoljub Malisic accepted the kumstvo for the following year.
A delicious meal followed the liturgy prepared by the Kolo Sestara from the St. Nicholas Church on Barton Street in Hamilton. During the agape meal Metropolitan Sotirios addressed the faithful, speaking of the significance of brotherly love shared by the Greek and Serbian people and congratulating the monastery Slava of the Transfiguration of the Lord.
