Српски

Lansing, IL - A meeting of the clergy of the Chicago Deanery with His Grace Bishop Longin was held on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at the St. Archangel Michael church hall in Lansing, Illinois. This was also the annual to discuss certain issued from church life and to make a schedule for the Lenten Vespers and designate homilists.

At the beginning of the meeting, after the reading of the prayer, the Episcopal Deputy V. Rev. Stavrophor Nedeljko Lunich welcomed His Grace Bishop Longin and all clergy in attendance.  He then focued his attention on the church life in the parishes of the Chicago Deanery. Last year the St. Nicholas parish in Brookfield, Illinois celebrated its 50th anniversary. The celebration was at a high level. His Grace officiated at the Divine Liturgy with the concelebration of the parish priest V. Rev. Stavrophor Dennis Pavichevich and other clergy. V. Rev. Stavrophor Dr. Milos Vesin, parish priest in South Chicago and Lansing commemorated his 25th anniversary of being a priest. Over 500 guests attended Fr. Milos' banquet. We congratulate the parish priest and the parishioners of the St. Nicholas church on their 50th anniversary and Fr. Milos on his 25th anniversary.  Parish life unfolded with nothing out of the ordinary.

His Grace Bishop Longin greeted the clergy in attendance and expressed his delight at seeing a nice turnout at this meeting. Bishop then spoke of the newest events in our church on this continent. The Venerable St. Sebastian Dabovich was canonized per the decision of the Holy Assembly of Bishops. The canonization of St. Mardarije will take place next year in October at St. Sava Monastery, the memorial church of this new Serbian Orthodox Saint. The bishop spoke of the life and work of Bishop Mardarije, his sacrifice as founder of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of America and Canada. The bishop recently discovered an autobiography written personally by Bishop Mardarije. It will be published and be included in the life of this Saint.

After the bishop's address a discussion ensued on the practice of holding church school classes. Mostly church schools are held on Sundays while some parishes have them on other days. It should be done, therefore, according to the circumstances in the parish. V. Rev. Stavrophor Ilija Balach submitted a report of the renovation process of the St. Sava camp building. The building will completely renovated and serve many purposes. We are in the process of preparing the finishing plans and as soon as we receive the appropriate permits the renovation will begin.

Clergy will health, much luck and success to Fr. Sasa Nedic the South Bend parish priest who is leaving for his new assignment in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

In the end the Lenten Vespers schedule was completed.

Prota Nedeljko thanked  Fr. Milos Vesin and his church board on behalf of all the clergy in attendance for this hospitality.

Thus the meeting of the clergy of the Chicago Deanery came to a close to the glory of God.

A meal was served.

V. Rev. Stavrophor Nedeljko Lunich
