COMMUNIQUE OF THE COMMITTEE FOR THE ORGANIZATION OF THE FUNERAL FOR PATRIARCH PAVLE OF BLESSED REPOSE

Belgrade, Serbia - The body of Patriarch Pavle of blessed repose was transferred to the Cathedral Church of St. Archangel Michael in Belgrade, where the daily Divine Liturgy and memorial, with the reading of the holy Gospel, will be served.

The faithful who wish to pay their respects to Patriarch Pavle of blessed repose can do so at the Belgrade Cathedral, which will remain open.

The funeral will be on Thursday, November 19, 2009. The Divine Liturgy that day will begin at 7:30am at the Cathedral Church. The coffin with the newly reposed Patriarch Pavle will be led in  a funeral procession beginning at 9:30am and will proceed to the Memorial-Church of St. Sava on Vracar, where the funeral service will begin at 11:00am. The burial service will then take place in the courtyard of the St. Archangel Michael Monastery in Rakovica.

The Serbian Orthodox Church requests of her faithful that, in respect to Orthodox tradition to which Patriarch Pavle of blessed repose was committed to, they not bring flowers, but – inasmuch as they desire – that they make donations for the completion of the work of the Memorial Church of St. Sava, at the places designated for this.
