PATRIARCH VISITS THE CONSULATE GENERAL OF THE REPUBLIC OF SERBIA
AND THE "ST. SAVA" SERBIAN-AMERICAN MUSEUM IN CHICAGO



Chicago, IL - On Thursday, Augus 17, 2012 His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia, accompanied by His Grace Bishop Longin of New Gracanica and Midwestern America and Fr. Vladimir Vranic, visited the  Consulate General of the Repubic of Serbia and met with the Consul General Desko Nikitovic. Following a cordial reception His Holiness, accompanied by Mr. Nikitovic, visited the Serbian-American Museum “St. Sava” in Chicago.

His Holiness was welcomed by the president of the museum Dr. Zivojin Pavlovic and museum members. In the large home of the museum His Holiness was first led to the colorfully arranged room dedicated to Monastery Hilandar, then the room dedicated to the Serbian migrants to the US and finally to the Nikola Tesla room. Afterward, Dr. Pavlovic showed His Holiness the remainder of the museum, the auditorium on the third floor where amateur productions of the “Mira Sremcevic” theater are performed.

A formal luncheon was prepared for His Holiness. Following the lunch Dr. Zivojin Pavlovic presented His Holiness an illustrated book of Chicago and words of gratitude for his visit which is of invaluable importance for this institution that witnesses to the exceptionally rich Serbian culture and is able to offer a significant contribution to preserving the national identity in these regions.   

Thanking his hosts for the hospitality and gifts, His Holiness said that the “St. Sava” Museum is significant not only for Serbs who live in the Chicago area, but in all of America. “This should a place of culture for the Serbian people who live in America. In that manner would our people always be able to remind themselves of the greatness of such things as Hilandar and Nikola Tesla and to be proud of that which they have!” His Holiness added.

His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia, together with His Grace Bishop Longin of New Gracanica and Midwestern America, received Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford on August 16. Mr. Rutherford made a courtesy visit on the occasion of His Holiness' visit to the United States.
